Types of Hose Reels
1. Manual - Manual hose reels are reels that withdraw hoses by manually turning a crank. There are four types of manual hose reels available in the market today, namely, chain-driven crank, disk, gear-driven crank and direct drive reels.
2. Spring - Spring hose reels are reels that uses springs to withdraw the hose. Spring hose reels are recommended for those who want to have a more compelling reel rewind, but without the power used in powered hose reels.
3. Powered - Powered hose reels are reels that uses air, water or electricity in retracting hose. This type of reel is used in industries where work is heavy-duty. The method by which the reel is powered can be hydraulic, electric or with the use of air.
Factors in Choosing Hose Reels
In choosing a hose reel, there are three factors to be considered, namely, the type of hose that one is using, the size, and shape of the hose reel.
1. Type of Hose - Hose reels have various maximum capacities so it is crucial that one should select a hose reel that is either exact or has a bigger capacity than the hose. A reel that is too small for the hose will ruin the hose.
2. Shape - If the type of hose is significant in choosing a hose reel, so is the shape of the reel in proportion to the hose. Gardens using small hoses requires small reels, while industries that uses big hoses like the fire department needs big reels to hold the weight of the hose.
3. Size - The size of the hose reel is also an important factor to consider in buying the right reel for your needs. Buying a big reel comes with having a wall that can support the weight and size of the reel.
